Nonna Terra Tarot Reading & Spiritual Counseling

My fellow human beings,

We are living in a very dangerous, frightening, turbulent time. This common experience we are having right now – this is not normal. And, this is totally expected given our history and our collective traumas and dissociations. Should we survive beyond the next 20 or so years of intense climate, social, and political upheaval, this is not a time we will look back on and want to remember, but it is imperative that we notice what is happening around us right now. We must notice that the immigrant detention centers look a lot like images of internment and concentration camps, let alone more recent and contemporary refugee camps. We must notice that though we say things like women’s rights and LGBT rights and the rights of Black and Indigenous and all people of Color are being “rolled back” – we are marching ever forward in time. When forward in time and backward in anything else happen simultaneously, we must really pay attention and notice. We must notice that in times of crisis we tend to repeat the atrocities of the past. We must notice that we are doing this right this second, and we must each of us individually and personally ask ourselves, our loved ones, and our elders and ancestors – what is our responsibility in this moment? What is possible, in terms of doing things differently this time around the cycle? What is salvageable? And what is ready to be let go?

These are the questions that led me to launch Nonna Terra, a Tarot Reading and Spiritual Counseling business, which means “Grandmother Earth” in Sicilian.  All four of my ancestral lines lead back to Sicily, and in my attempt to understand what my specific role is in all of this work we have ahead of us, I am hearing my Sicilian ancestors the loudest. I am hearing them echo what many of my friends and chosen family members have been saying as well: it is time now to get right. Get right with yourself, your loved ones. Get right with the land. Get right with your (god)(ess)(es). And as you do, teach others how you do it. Encourage others to do the same. I am here to honor that request and offer my services to anyone who is ready to be fully engaged in their own self-tranformation.

I’m turning toward this work and away from a 15-year career as an administrator in higher education, where I worked in offices that supported undergraduate students in their experiences outside the classroom. I worked in advising mostly – academic advising, advising students on the admissions process, and advising student activists, leaders, and groups. I also spent many of my years in supervisory roles and coached and mentored many student and professional staff, developing advisory relationships there as well. My experiences with people on campus from all walks of life and spanning and crossing and messing with all kinds of identity categories has led me to understand that many of us are far too “busy” (distracted by our work lives, mostly, but also our responsibilities in our families) to take time to reflect on our personal values, let alone to ensure that the work we are doing aligns with the values we believe will bring us personally and collectively closer to being in Right Relationship with all living beings and with Earth itself.

As a Tarot reader and spiritual counselor, my goal is to work with people who would like to clarify their values and to ensure that the decisions they make about their careers, their families, relationships, travel plans – literally anything – are aligned with their true personal values, whether or not those values might align with one’s parents values, or the values commonly held by their “home” communities or workplaces.

While I am new to reading for others as a “job”, I have nearly two decades of experience working as an adviser to many varied people, institutions, and organizations across three states. I also have experience working in community service and activist organizations in the Twin Cities area, specifically LGBTQIA and youth-serving organizations. I have just completed two amazing courses in Tarot by Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul. One was a quick course called Trauma and the Tarot, which has been a critical resource for me in my own healing process, and the other was a more in-depth, 8-week long course on using the Tarot as a tool to help ground and re-center into our own personal values.

In addition to the courses, I have been studying the words, techniques, and wisdom offered in books, decks, websites, and blogs, including but not limited to:

I am excited to work with and read for YOU! Please visit my online scheduling page to book with me today!

Love and Strength,

Owen
